“Management of Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office” Description:
A patient has a heart attack while in the dental chair or suffers from an allergic drug reaction during treatment. Do you and your dental team know what to do or what you should have in your emergency kit? This course offers a comprehensive review for the entire dental team to learn how to identify, manage and prevent medical emergencies in the dental office.
- Understand and be able to implement the ABCD principles in emergency situations;
- Understand the pathophysiology of neurological and respiratory conditions, hypertension, angina, myocardial infarction;
- Identify and manage the clinical signs and symptoms of a medical emergency;
- Identify the basic requirements of emergency medications and understand the pharmacologic information of these medications.
Dr. Raymon Grewal received his Bachelor of Science degree in Anatomy and Histology from McGill University. In 2001, he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Columbia University in New York City. He later went on to pursue his additional training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Hospital of Saint Raphael/Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. After the completion of his training, he became a board-certified specialist and a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.
He is the Division Head of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at BC Children’s Hospital and an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Dentistry. Dr. Grewal maintains a full-time private practice in Vancouver and Surrey where he practices the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with a special interest in dentoalveolar procedures, oral pathology, maxillofacial reconstruction, and trauma.
In addition to full-time private practice, Dr. Grewal is currently the President of the BC Dental Association and the President of the BC Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Dr. Ali Sadeghi is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon. He earned his dental doctorate from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and his medical doctorate from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Dr. Sadeghi completed a one-year dental general practice residency at St. Barnabas Hospital in New York. He then completed a one-year fellowship in oral and maxillofacial surgery, a one-year general surgery internship and the six-year oral and maxillofacial surgery residency all at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He was an attending surgeon at both Mount Sinai Hospital and Lincoln Medical Center in New York where he participated in resident training and development.
He is currently the department head of dentistry and oral and maxillofacial surgery at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver and an assistant clinical professor at UBC Dental School. Dr. Sadeghi was awarded the part-time UBC faculty teaching award in 2010. Dr. Sadeghi is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and Secretary Treasurer of the BC Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and an active member of Canadian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Dr. Sadeghi has been in private practice since 2008. He maintains a private practice in Vancouver and Port Coquitlam where he practices the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
