IMPLANT Case Studies with Dr. Winston Chee: Blended Learning / On-Line Case Studies for VDDS Members

Blended Learning Details: On-line Case Studies,  “Q & A of the Week”, and Face-to-Face Session

Dr. Chee’s on-line case studies provide an optional, blended learning experience for VDDS Members.  The on-line portion is being presented in collaboration with Dr. Chee, who will present for Web posting his response to the outcomes of each set of case study treatment proposals and, subsequently, he will reference the outcomes in his lecture on May 7, 2010.

  • Question A – What should treatment to provide long term restorations be?
  • Question B – If implants are indicated, what precautions are prudent?

  • Fractured lateral incisor.
  • Question – What is the appropriate restoration?
  • Patient is 45 yr old – has anterior group function, no evidence of parafunction.
  • Patient has an intact dentition.

Case Study One (March 9 - 26, 2010):

Dentinogenesis imperfecta – aetiology and treatment.

  • Question – What is the most predictable long term tx?
  • Patient is 32 yr old female – had present dds placing and replacing composites that don’t stay on.
  • Was suggested to have full mouth restorations.

Before You Submit Your Treatment Proposal: Dr. Chee’s Case Study One must be carefully considered and at least three on-line and/or print sources must be referenced by you before your treatment proposal is prepared and submitted along with the published evidence/research that you find.  The published evidence/research to support your treatment proposal is to be referenced, with a url and download date for on-line sources, and with author and publisher information for print sources.

Credit Hours: Each case study will provide VDDS Members with an option of up to 2.25 credit hours (.75 for participation in each case study) and Dr. Chee’s program on Friday, May 7, 2010 will prodide up to 6.0 credit hours.

“Q & A of the Week”: Dr. Winston Chee will work in collaboration with VDDS Scientific Director Dr. Scott Connors to consider the case study outcomes of evidence-based treatment proposals that are submitted by VDDS Members, and Dr. Chee will provide feedback that will be posted on-line at the end of each case study cycle.  Dr. Chee will also be referring to the case studies and VDDS Member treatment proposals in his session on May 7.

Winston Chee, DDS FACP, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics. He is the Ralph W. & Jean L. Bleak Professor of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Southern California (USC), School of Dentistry and presently serves as the Director of Implant Dentistry and the Co-Director of the Advanced Prosthodontics Program at USC, where he has been a full time faculty member for 23 years and has taught at both pre and post doctoral levels. He publishes regularly having over 70 publications on dental materials and implant dentistry in peer reviewed journals and participates in clinical research.  He has lectured internationally and maintains a private practice limited to Prosthodontics in Glendale, California.
