“Make my Day”: Developing a Dental Office Courtesy System

The goal of the course is to implement courtesy ideals into a dental office setting that are so profound, yet so simple and subtle, that they are often easily missed or forgotten.  As we move into an “experience-based economy” our patients are demanding to be treated with courtesy, respect and politeness. This lecture will revisit the simple basics of courtesy in a dental business setting and in our day to day lives. A set of generic behaviors will be presented as a set of ideals that ensure that team members know how to act courteously and respect the individuality of each guest and their fellow team member.

As a result of attending this course, the participant should be able to:

  • Appreciate the benefits of developing a office courtesy system in their dental practice
  • Learn the importance of setting as it reflects the perceived quality of care provided in any office
  • Know how to properly greet and bid farewell everyone who enters your office
  • Understand the importance of the use and pronunciation of people’s names
  • Know the importance of smiling, positive attitudes and enthusiasm in creating the ideal working culture that can be available to anyone
  • Develop better listening skills
  • Establish rules for office confrontation
  • Know how to and understand the benefits of compliments
  • Create boundaries for office communication
  • Move toward a “gossip-free” office environment
  • Know the importance of following up on patient care
  • Determine whether or not they have a happy office environment
  • Learn and apply these extremely practical and easy to grasp courtesy ideals and enjoy the success that they bring
